China will battle Uzbekistan in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday in their first AFC Under-23 Asian Cup quarterfinal appearance.

China began their campaign with a stalemate against Iraq before beating Australia and then another goalless draw with Thailand to finish second in Group D.

Uzbekistan advanced to the last 8 as Group C winners. Their overall record at the tournament is more impressive after winning it in 2018 and reaching the final in 2022 and 2024.

China has not conceded a goal at this year's edition, giving coach Antonio Puche plenty of room for optimism.

"Our team is looking forward to this match," said China midfielder Li Zhenquan. "We have analyzed the opponent both on and off the field and have gained a certain understanding of Uzbekistan. It is a tenacious team with good technical skills. I think the game will be highly competitive."
