Winter care safeguards Przewalski's horses in Xinjiang's Fuhai County

00:53

Heavy snow has sealed the grasslands of the Kalamaili Nature Reserve in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, prompting rangers in Fuhai County to deliver emergency fodder and monitor Przewalski's horses in their wintering grounds. As the world's only remaining wild horse species and a first-class nationally protected animal, Przewalski's horses are a key indicator of desert grassland health. Thanks to sustained conservation, the local population has grown to 30. Authorities have stockpiled 20 tonnes of feed to help the rare species safely live through the harsh winter, highlighting efforts to protect the species.
