China began construction of a nuclear power plant with coupled units for power generation and industrial steam supply in Lianyungang, east China's Jiangsu Province, on January 16. The plant will combine nuclear reactors featuring advanced third and fourth generation designs. The initial phase is expected to include the building of two pressurized water reactors and a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. This synergy will balance energy output, as well as heat demand for local petrochemical industries. It marks a milestone in China's nuclear energy's diversified utilization, according to its developer China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
