The construction of China's Xuwei Nuclear Power Plant has officially begun, marking the first nuclear project of the 15th Five-Year Plan. The plant will integrate a Hualong One pressurized water reactor and a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor. The project will generate both electricity and industrial steam for local chemical industries, reducing coal consumption by 7.26 million tonnes annually and cutting CO2 emissions by 19.6 million tonnes once operational.
