A deadly blast at a restaurant in central Kabul on Monday caused multiple casualties, leaving two Chinese citizens critically injured.

The explosion occurred at a restaurant in the Shahr-e-Naw area, a fortified enclave in the heart of the Afghan capital. Casualty figures have yet to be confirmed, said Abdul Mateen Qani, a spokesperson for Afghanistan's Ministry of Interior. An Afghan security officer was reported killed in the incident, while the two Chinese citizens were hospitalized and remain in critical condition.

The cause of the blast is under investigation.
