At least 39 people were killed and more than 100 others injured when two high-speed trains collided near Cordoba in southern Spain on Sunday. Authorities said dozens of the injured remain in serious condition and are hospitalized. Rescue operations are ongoing. Alvaro Fernandez Heredia, the president of the state-owned rail operator Renfe, said human error has largely been ruled out as the cause of the accident.
