The Canadian Armed Forces have developed a conceptual model responding to a hypothetical military invasion by the United States, local media reported on Tuesday.

Two senior government officials were cited as saying that it is the first time in a century that Canada's military has created a model of an American assault, daily newspaper the Globe and Mail reported.

The officials, who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, said that the model is a conceptual and theoretical framework, not an actionable military plan.

They said it is unlikely the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump would order an invasion of Canada.

Canada is a founding member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Washington's key partner in the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
