Every January, Bosten Lake in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region hosts a vibrant winter fishing festival, where local fishermen drill through the ice to cast the year's first net, creating a "human joy and fish leaping" spectacle. As China's largest inland freshwater lake, it yielded 4,000 tonnes of high-quality fish in 2025, thanks to sustainable practices like "catching large and releasing small."
