China has formally applied to host the secretariat of the landmark United Nations Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Agreement in Xiamen, as the treaty enters into force with 82 countries and the EU as parties. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun highlighted Tuesday China's commitment to ocean governance and Xiamen's credentials as an ideal host city.
