Vietnam's communist party congress elects new central committee

The ongoing 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on Thursday announced the results of the election of the new Party Central Committee members.

Among the 180 official members of the newly elected committee are General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee (CPVCC) To Lam, Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, and permanent member of the Secretariat of the CPVCC Tran Cam Tu.

The congress also elected 20 alternate members to the 14th CPVCC.

A total of 1,586 delegates representing over 5.6 million members of the CPV are attending the national congress scheduled from Monday to Friday.

On Friday, delegates will have a morning recess while the newly elected central committee will hold its first plenum, and the congress will convene its closing session in the afternoon.
