During the Major Cold period, Qinghe County of Altay, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, experienced a rare celestial show: auroras and the Milky Way coexisting in the -30 degrees Celsius night sky. The auroras, glowing like flowing crimson silk, were caused by recent solar activity energizing Earth's atmosphere.
