General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping on Friday congratulated To Lam on his election as general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee.

In his congratulatory message, Xi said that since the CPV's 13th National Congress, the CPV has remained committed to pursuing a socialist modernization path suited to Vietnam's national conditions, upheld and strengthened the Party's overall leadership, and united and led the Vietnamese people to achieve remarkable accomplishments in the cause of socialist construction and renovation.

As a result, Vietnam's international status and global influence have continued to grow, he pointed out.

Xi noted that the successful convening of the CPV's 14th National Congress has ushered in a new era for Vietnam's national development and will inspire and advance the development of the global socialist movement.

He expressed confidence that under the leadership of the new CPV Central Committee with Comrade To Lam at its core, the CPV will surely unite and lead the Vietnamese people to forge ahead with determination, push the Party and the country's undertakings to new and greater achievements and successfully accomplish all goals and tasks set forth by the 14th National Congress of the CPV.

Xi also stressed that China and Vietnam, two friendly socialist neighbors, represent a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

Xi said he highly values relations between the two Parties and the two countries, and stands ready to work with Comrade To Lam to strengthen strategic communication, carry forward traditional friendship and firmly advance the socialist cause.

Xi added that the two sides should guide the building of China-Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperation and a China-Vietnam community with a shared future to continuously yield fruitful results, bring greater benefits to the two peoples and make positive contributions to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.
