Federal officers shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on the morning of Saturday, January 24, during a federal immigration enforcement operation. The incident occurred amid the Trump administration's expanded immigration crackdown and ongoing protests in the city.

Details surrounding the shooting remain "evolving," officials say. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said the man had a firearm with two magazines at the scene. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the incident as "sickening" and said he had been in contact with the White House, calling for the operation to end.

The shooting unfolded against the backdrop of widespread daily protests since the January 7 killing of 37-year-old Renee Good by a federal officer, with demonstrators repeatedly demanding that federal law enforcement leave the Twin Cities.

After the latest shooting, an angry crowd gathered near the scene, confronting federal officers, with some tensions spilling over into clashes as agents used batons and other crowd-control tactics.

Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara urged calm, even as local officials and U.S. lawmakers, including Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, sharply criticized the federal enforcement actions and called for the withdrawal of what they described as "violent, untrained officers."
