Under the dual pressures of tenant protection laws and a severe housing supply-demand imbalance in the United States, the problem of "squatters" has intensified, evolving into a significant social governance challenge. A squatter is a person who enters or intrudes upon real property without the permission of the person entitled to possession, and continues to occupy the property without title, right or permission of the owner or owner's agent or a person entitled to possession.

Currently, stringent tenant protection policies and protracted legal procedures make it difficult for landlords to evict these squatters in a timely manner. CGTN Stringer interviews landlords, a real estate agent and New York State Assembly Member Lester Chang, exposing the legal loopholes and the harsh realities faced by landlords.

Assembly Member Chang pointed out, "Landlords' first issue of unfairness right now on eviction on the court side itself is that there is no adjudication in a speedy way."
