Atomic scientists on Tuesday set the 2026 "Doomsday Clock" to 85 seconds to midnight, underscoring escalating nuclear risks and the threat of global destruction. This is the third time that the clock has been moved closer to midnight in the past five years.The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, a Chicago-based nonprofit, created the clock in 1947 amid Cold War tensions following World War II to warn the public how close humanity was to destroying the world.
