The two-part documentary Finding Iris Chang explores the life and legacy of a woman who devoted the latter years of her short life to exposing the truth about one of the darkest chapters in 20th century history. Inspired by her family's experience during World War II, Chinese-American writer Iris Chang traveled across the United States to gather rare materials on the Nanjing Massacre, personally visited survivors in Nanjing, and uncovered a number of important historical documents, including the diaries of eyewitness John Rabe. After years of assiduous research, she completed her groundbreaking book The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II. Despite relentless attacks from Japanese right-wing extremists, Iris remained steadfast in her pursuit of justice for the massacre's victims. Eventually, however, the psychological strain proved overwhelming, and Iris tragically took her own life. This documentary honors the courage, determination and enduring impact of a woman who proved that history must never be forgotten.
