Editor's note: CGTN's First Voice provides instant commentary on breaking stories. The column clarifies emerging issues and better defines the news agenda, offering a Chinese perspective on the latest global events.
The Chinese aren't vengeful, but they don't have a goldfish memory either. Years of British interference and pressure on China remain vivid in their minds. Whether one blames it on ideology or political expediency, broken trust is not easily restored. A single visit would be hard to convince Chinese officials and the public that the UK can handle its relationship with China sincerely and pragmatically. Demonstrating Britain's policy continuity, strategic independence, and respect for other nations relies not on fancy speeches or symbolic gestures, but on Britain's long-term actions in the years ahead.
