China stands ready to work with Azerbaijan to consolidate political mutual trust, carry forward traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen international coordination, and jointly promote new achievements in China-Azerbaijan relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Beijing.

Noting that the two countries announced the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership last year, Wang said the development has taken bilateral relations to a new stage of high-quality, all-around development.

China appreciates Azerbaijan's long-standing and firm support on issues concerning China's core interests, and the country will, as always, support Azerbaijan in safeguarding its sovereignty and interests, and in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions, said Wang.

He called on the two countries to strengthen the alignment of their development strategies, explore more areas of shared interests and create more growth points for cooperation.

As Global South countries, China and Azerbaijan should work together to practice true multilateralism, uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core and promote the building of a more just and effective global governance system, he said.

Bayramov said that Azerbaijan-China relations are grounded in mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual support, and that upgrading bilateral ties last year has injected strong momentum into strategic cooperation between the two sides.

He said Azerbaijan firmly believes that China's development presents opportunities for the world, supports the four global initiatives proposed by China, and is willing to join the Group of Friends of Global Governance.

Bayramov expressed readiness to work with China to step up high-level exchanges, strengthen inter-party communication, expand cooperation in areas including trade and investment, connectivity, science and technology, education and tourism, deepen coordination and cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and advance bilateral ties while making greater contributions to regional peace and prosperity.

The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of mutual interest.
