China's two largest cloud providers, Tencent Cloud and Alibaba Cloud, on January 28 launched Clawdbot’s simplified cloud deployment and full cloud services, providing one-click setup of the high-privilege AI agent, now renamed Moltbot.

Moltbot is an open-source AI agent that runs locally on your computer or server. It automates tasks like managing files, processing email and writing code with fully controllable data privacy and runs 24/7 through chat-based interaction. This is according to the platforms' own developer documentation.

The agent's rapid adoption has boosted demand for compact local hardware. Reports from Chinese financial media, China Business Network, show that Apple's Mac mini is increasingly used to host Moltbot for continuous operation.

The trend drew international attention after Logan Kilpatrick, product lead for Google AI Studio, posted "Mac mini ordered" on social media, signaling tech leaders' interest in always-on local AI agents.

Technology media have highlighted both enthusiasm and caution. Wired notes Moltbot’s rapid adoption among developers and professionals as a powerful personalization and automation tool. The Verge describes its proactive capabilities across messaging platforms while also raising security considerations associated with deep system access.

The project was renamed Moltbot on January 27 after a trademark dispute with Anthropic, which claimed similarities to its Claude AI brand. The development team said the name change would not affect the agent's core functionality or open-source roadmap.
