China has achieved new progress in the inheritance, innovation and development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in 2025, according to an official meeting on Wednesday.
A total of 90 TCM specialty departments in fields such as mental disorders, pediatrics, and gynecology were added. Focusing on major and difficult diseases, 212 clinical collaboration projects integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine were carried out. The "Modernization of TCM" key special project approved 57 initiatives, supporting scientific research on the development of pediatric TCM drugs, as well as TCM prevention and treatment of major and difficult diseases related to immunity, metabolism, and other areas.
As of the end of December 2025, 13 national key laboratories have been established in the field of TCM research, along with 31 national TCM inheritance and innovation centers.
