China Crafted｜Sacred Shang｜Vessels of faith and power

China Crafted is a virtual exhibition that immerses viewers in the beauty of ancient Chinese artifacts from the Shang, Han, Tang and Song dynasties. Sacred Shang, one of its four sections, reveals a world where ritual vessels formed the material language through which humans interacted with the cosmos and shaped their beliefs.

From towering bronze ding and commanding yue axes to jade ornaments and martial gear, Shang craftsmanship fused function with meaning. Animal motifs and fearsome patterns transformed tools into symbols and objects into authority, casting power, belief and order into enduring form.
