China Crafted｜Sacred Shang｜Warrior queen and divinity

China Crafted is a virtual exhibition that immerses viewers in the beauty of ancient Chinese artifacts from the Shang, Han, Tang and Song dynasties. Sacred Shang, one of the four sections of the exhibition, unveils a world where pure jade, divine rituals and bronze artifacts give form to a cosmos ruled by spirits, ancestors and the legendary warrior-queen Fu Hao.

Fu Hao, the most beloved wife of King Wu Ding of the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 BCE), stands where ritual meets authority. Jade speaks of rank, while bronze represents force. In her hands, ceremony becomes authority and war becomes order. These images trace a queen whose power was worn, wielded and inscribed into the state itself.
