China Crafted is a virtual exhibition that immerses viewers in the beauty of ancient Chinese artifacts from the Shang, Han, Tang and Song dynasties. Serene Song, one of its four sections, shows how form and glaze become poetry. It takes viewers to a realm where rare porcelains emerged not just as vessels but as expressions of refinement and contemplation.

In the Song Dynasty, imperial Ru ware stood apart with its luminous bluish-green glaze, often likened to a rain-washed sky in its quiet, opalescent tone. Alongside this sky-like serenity, the deep, lustrous black and blue-black glazes of Jian ware tea bowls offered a dramatic foil: dark fields where "hare's fur," "oil spot" and shimmering effects could be appreciated against the white froth of whisked tea (Dian Cha). In the pause between sip and silence, these porcelains brought poetry and ritual into harmony.
