China Crafted｜Treasured Tang｜Fragrance of the empire

China Crafted is a virtual exhibition that immerses viewers in the beauty of ancient Chinese artifacts from the Shang, Han, Tang and Song dynasties. Treasured Tang, one of its four sections, reveals how beauty, scent and sophistication defined courtly life.

Silver incense carriers, delicately made with openwork grapevine and bird motifs, tell a story of elegance in motion. In the Tang capital of Chang'an, such objects were more than adornments, as they carried fragrance across palace corridors, blending aesthetic ingenuity with daily ritual.
