U.S. space technology company Blue Origin announced Friday that it will pause its New Shepard human spaceflight missions for at least two years and shift resources to accelerate the development of the company's human lunar capabilities.

"Resources will be redirected to further accelerate the lunar human flight program," the company said in a statement.

According to Blue Origin, New Shepard is the first reusable spaceflight system capable of vertical landings. To date, it has flown 38 missions and carried 98 humans above the Karman line.

The system has also launched more than 200 scientific and research payloads from students, academic institutions, research organizations and NASA.
