Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Milan on January 31 to protest the deployment of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, despite reports that the agents will be stationed only in a control room.
The demonstration in Piazza XXV Aprile, named for Italy's 1945 liberation, included members of Italy's Democratic Party, the CGIL trade union, and ANPI, among others.
Blowing whistles and holding banners, protesters voiced opposition not only to ICE's role in U.S. security operations, but also to what they described as rising fascism in the United States.
