Rwanda marked its National Heroes Day on February 1, paying tribute to the values that have guided its transformation over the past three decades.
During an interview with CGTN's Zhang Meng, Rwandan Ambassador to China James Kimonyo said heroism in Rwanda is rooted in patriotism, unity and service to the people. He noted that these values helped the country overcome a painful past marked by division and laid the foundation for national reconciliation, stability and inclusive development.
Kimonyo said these principles also shape Rwanda's engagement with international partners, including China. He highlighted youth exchanges and education cooperation as an important bridge between the two countries. With young people making up the majority of Rwanda's population, he said inspiring the next generation to uphold unity, pursue self-reliance and contribute to national development is essential to carrying forward the legacy of Rwanda's heroes.
