In the latest edition of the exclusive "Talk Sports" interview series, CGTN Sports Scene anchor Greg Laffradi had the privilege of speaking with Yang Yang, China's first Winter Olympics champion and current World Anti-Doping Agency Vice President. The short track speed skating legend shared her insights and expectations for the upcoming Milano Cortina Games, emphasizing the importance of today's athletes as role models for younger generations.

Returning to Italy holds special significance for Yang, who previously competed at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. "It is very special for me to go back to Italy to have the Olympics with a different role. No more athletes, but still very lucky to be involved," she said, reflecting on a nostalgic, yet forward-looking journey back to the host nation.

Yang, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, also extended her best wishes to China's athletes as they prepare for the Games. Meanwhile, her belief in the critical role of technology in short track speed skating remains profound, recognizing how advancements can enhance performance.

"They have so much information they can even set up like a pre-Games model, strategic, analyze every athlete," she noted. "So now this is definitely not only athletes themselves, but also the supporting team, including technology, which is very important ... Details make differences nowadays."

Yang underscored the importance of role models in promoting winter sports as well. "Role models are always very important," she added, highlighting how athletes can inspire and cultivate a passion for ice sports among youth.

"I'm sure we're going to have new stars and the stars will inspire more people," she concluded. "We also have the facilities, which is a legacy from the 2022 Winter Olympics. Those are very important for the fans."
