The 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics are set to draw the world's gaze once again to the thriving winter sports scene, this time with an Italian twist. A poll conducted by CGTN among global netizens finds that 61.2 percent of respondents believe Olympic values can enhance inclusiveness in the international community, expressing hope that the Games will serve as an important platform for promoting dialogue, exchange and cooperation among nations.

It is worth noting that ski mountaineering is returning to the Olympic stage after a 78-year absence, becoming the sole new sport added to the Games. According to the poll, 71 percent of respondents believe this sport, which combines historical heritage with modern competitive appeal, will bring fresh vitality to the event.

This year's Winter Olympics emphasizes green initiatives, with sustainable and eco-friendly designs integrated into the torch, medals and venue construction. The poll shows 58.1 percent of respondents believe this is a positive response to the pursuit of green and low-carbon development. Additionally, 75.2 percent of respondents agree that the renovation and construction of roads, railways and venues undertaken by host cities to support the Games present a valuable opportunity to upgrade overall related infrastructure.

Artificial intelligence (AI) driven technological innovations will be a highlight of the Winter Olympics broadcast. With real-time 360-degree replay systems that recap details within seconds and AI trajectory-tracking systems that visualize race dynamics in real time, these features are highly anticipated by 62.4 percent of respondents.

Notably, China Media Group (CMG) is set to play an unprecedented role in shaping the viewing experience for the 2026 Winter Olympics. CMG will be the only global media organization involved in the production of the 8K international public signals at the Games, while also serving as the main provider of 8K international public signals for the opening and closing ceremonies, in addition to producing international public signals for figure skating and short track speed skating for the first time.

The survey was released across CGTN's English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms, attracting 8,854 overseas participants who shared their views within 24 hours.
