The Chinese mainland has criticized Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council for what it said about a female public representative of the Taiwan People's Party, a mainland spouse in Taiwan who just took office. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council said, "She must renounce her Chinese nationality within one year of taking office; otherwise, she cannot hold the public office post." A spokesperson for the mainland's Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council slammed the claim.
