Delivering the best action to the audience is one of the most important tasks at every edition of the Olympic Games.

With that in mind, CGTN Sports Scene's Greg Laffradi spoke to Sotiris Salamouris, Chief Technology Officer of the Olympic Broadcasting Services, about how Chinese company Alibaba is changing the way viewers can watch the events.

Salamouris noted that OBS is ready to broadcast the opening ceremony of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, which was less than two days away at the time of the interview.

The competitions at the Games will be spread across five main, geographically dispersed locations: Milan (ice sports), Cortina d'Ampezzo (Alpine/sliding), Valtellina (skiing/snowboarding), Val di Fiemme (Nordic) and Antholz (biathlon).

Salamouris admitted that the dispersed nature of Milano Cortina 2026 presents multiple challenges, but said he has full confidence in his team, especially with Alibaba's cloud system helping overcome logistical challenges.

The OBS official also hailed China Media Group's contributions to the Winter Olympics, as the only producer of 8K signals for this edition of the Games.
