A restaurant in Beijing has given visiting Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi a taste of home. A post on Orsi's social media showed that the South American-style restaurant offered a tasting of the Uruguayan menu. It also features Uruguayan beef, along with other South American specialties such as yerba mate tea.
During the visit, Orsi left a message on a Uruguayan national football team shirt, writing: "This jersey and this restaurant are proof of what we Uruguayans are capable of," reflecting pride in Uruguayan identity.
Beef exports are a key pillar of Uruguay's economy, accounting for about 3 percent of its GDP. China has become one of Uruguay's major markets for beef, with a steady demand for high-quality imports.
