Professor Li Yingjun of Tsinghua University explores the structural logic of the qipao: a traditional style of Manchu dress. Innovatively using only one piece of fabric, it conforms to the body through a folding and structuring approach, instead of relying on complex tailoring. The qipao was popularized in Shanghai in the early 1900s, and using it as a starting point, Professor Li demonstrates how long-established design concepts can be reinterpreted in modern times and integrated with contemporary fashion.
