The Ablefly National Drone Soccer Championship Finals, the world's first drone soccer event with more than 10,000 participants, kicked off on Saturday in Chengdu, southwest China. A total of 1,116 teams from around the world took part, highlighting the dynamic integration of the emerging low-altitude economy and competitive sports.
The rules are simple: pilots must maneuver spherical drones through the opponent's goal. The fast-paced aerial action has led many to call it the real-life version of "quidditch" from the Harry Potter series.
