Analysis: Takaichi's fiscal spending plan could add to regional instability

04:31

Japan's ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's Liberal Democratic Party has secured a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives. John Gong, a Professor of Economics at the University of International Business and Economics, told CGTN's Global Business that Takaichi's spending plan, including raising the defense budget, could add to Japan's already severe national debt problem and increase geo-political instability in Northeast Asia. Professor Gong also believes a weakening yen could make it harder for Takaichi's administration to finance a bigger budget.
