The Przewalski horse was first discovered and captured in the Junggar Basin by Russian explorer Nikolay Przhevalsky in the late 1870s and then brought to Europe. It was only after nearly a century of conservation efforts that these horses were reintroduced to their native homeland in 1985. Today, a population of these amazing horses thrives in the Kalamaili Mountain Ungulate Wildlife Nature Reserve, one of the world's largest havens for Przewalski's horses.
