Stringer Dispatch: At least 14 dead after apartment building collapse in Lebanon

Global Stringer

The death toll from an apartment building collapse in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli has risen to at least 14 people. Several people were rescued from the rubble as emergency teams search for survivors.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health issued a statement on Monday saying that it will fully cover the medical expenses of those injured in the collapse.

The mayor of Tripoli, Abdel Hamid Karimeh, said that there are 105 buildings in the city at risk of collapse. The Lebanese government has promised to provide funds for the restoration and reinforcement of these buildings, amid concerns over old and poorly maintained buildings in the city.
