Ahead of the Spring Festival, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, visited primary-level officials and residents in Beijing on Tuesday morning.

President Xi inspected a community canteen, an apartment complex for seniors, and a downtown commercial area to learn about community and elderly-care services, festival market supplies, and the development of distinctive urban districts.

This year's Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, falls on February 17.
