It's not just Italy's best winter sports athletes who are in Milan for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Some their top summer sports counterparts are in the host city as well to spread their love of the Games and support their fellow athletes. At Italy House, CGTN Sports Scene's Greg Laffradi spoke to cyclists Elia Viviani and Elena Cecchini about their role as ambassadors for the Italian team and what has inspired them so far at Milano Cortina 2026.
Viviani won the men's omnium track gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He believes the ongoing Winter Games makes a big show to display the excellence of Italy as a country.
Cecchini the UCI Road World Championships in the Team Time Trial (TTT) event in 2018. Having participated in the Olympics twice, she found herself enjoying the Games better as an audience than being a competitor.
Cecchini skied in his younger days and said that the sport can be combined with cycling. Meanwhile, he felt very proud of Francesca Lollobrigida for delivering Italy's first gold at the Games.
Both have a long list of events they want to go to and watch from the crowd, and, this time, they can take their time for the best experience.
