Irish Ambassador to China shares warm moments during bilateral meeting

CGTN

In an interview with CGTN Digital Journalist He Beibei, Ambassador of Ireland to China, Dr. Nicholas O'Brien, offered a personal perspective on bilateral relations, beginning with his journey through 16 Chinese cities over the past year. From Haikou and Qingdao to the ancient Dujiangyan irrigation system in Chengdu, he experienced firsthand the vitality of the Chinese economy and the wisdom of Chinese civilization.

Reflecting on the Irish Taoiseach's fruitful visit to China in January, Ambassador O'Brien recalled a warm, spontaneous moment when Micheál Martin and Xi Jinping discovered their shared appreciation for the novel "The Gadfly.”

He also highlighted how Ireland's iconic Riverdance found its footing—and a massive audience—in China. As the Year of the Horse draws near, the Ambassador spoke about Ireland's traditional horse-racing culture and extended New Year's greetings for the occasion.
