Death toll revised, suspect identified in Canadian school shooting

Canadian police revised the death toll from the school shooting in Tumbler Ridge on Wednesday, confirming that nine people were killed, including the suspect. The attack also left at least 25 others injured.

The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, a former student who had dropped out of the school, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The motive is still under investigation.

Prime Minister Mark Carney called the shooting an act of "unheard-of cruelty" and announced that Canadian flags on federal buildings will fly at half-mast for seven days.
