A special Spring Festival event was held in Brasilia on February 10, bringing a touch of Chinese New Year celebrations to the Brazilian capital.

Organized by China Media Group (CMG), the event highlighted China's annual Spring Festival Gala — a televised variety show that has aired for more than four decades and is widely watched during the holiday. Combining music, dance, comedy and traditional arts, the program has become a familiar part of Chinese New Year's Eve for many Chinese families.

In a video message, Shen Haixiong, president of China Media Group, described Spring Festival as a holiday that connects generations and communities. He noted that as the celebration has gained international visibility, it has increasingly become a shared cultural moment for audiences beyond China.

Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao thanked the organizers for bringing the event to Brasilia, calling Spring Festival one of China's most meaningful traditional holidays. He said that although China and Brazil are geographically distant, people-to-people exchanges continue to draw the two countries closer.

Several Brazilian officials attended and addressed the gathering.

Brazil's Minister of Health Alexandre Padilha highlighted the steady development of Brazil–China relations, particularly in public health cooperation and policy exchange.

Joelma Gonzaga, Secretary of Audiovisual Affairs in Brazil's Ministry of Culture, explained that film and television has a role in fostering mutual understanding between cultures.

Rozana Naves, rector of the University of Brasilia, expressed hope that the occasion would encourage deeper academic and cultural collaboration.

Interactive booths at the venue gave visitors a chance to explore aspects of traditional Chinese culture. Some tried writing Chinese characters or dressing up in hanfu, a form of traditional attire. Students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Brasilia also performed Chinese martial arts, drawing applause from the audience.

The event received coverage from several Brazilian media outlets, reflecting growing local interest in cultural exchanges between the two countries.
