China stands ready to work with Ukraine to maintain communication, and work with the international community to play a constructive role in achieving an early political solution to the Ukraine crisis, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, on the sidelines of the 62nd Munich Security Conference.
Hailing the traditional friendship between the two countries, Wang said bilateral trade achieved steady development last year, and China remains Ukraine's largest trading partner and largest source of imports.
He called on both sides to maintain steady and healthy development in bilateral ties, expressing China's readiness to provide Ukraine with new humanitarian assistance.
Noting that the recent intensive progress in various dialogues surrounding the Ukraine crisis is encouraging, he said China's position has been consistent, adding that China always adheres to objectivity and fairness, and actively promotes peace talks.
Sybiha said China is Ukraine's largest trading partner, and the two countries have enormous potential for cooperation.
Ukraine adheres to the one-China principle, and will take concrete measures to safeguard the safety and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and enterprises in Ukraine, he said.
Hailing China's positive efforts to promote peace talks, he said Ukraine looks forward to China playing an important role in achieving an early ceasefire and comprehensive peace.
