He stood up and gave a military salute. President Xi Jinping raised his hand in response. Veteran Yang Zhengwang, 86, says it's a moment he will never forget. Ahead of the Spring Festival, President Xi visited a senior apartment complex in Beijing. As Xi walked toward the elevator, Yang straightened his back and saluted.

"He responded to me," Yang recalled. "I was truly moved."

China is now home to over 320 million people aged 60 and above. With a rapidly aging population, community-based elderly care is playing a growing role in everyday life.
