Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Munich Security Conference on Saturday and said China will continue to promote peace and facilitate talks to end regional conflicts.
When asked about China's role in resolving regional conflicts, particularly the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Wang said all regional conflicts should be resolved through dialogue, and the Ukraine issue is no exception.
China is not a party involved in the conflict, and the decision does not lie in its hands, he said, adding that what China can do is to promote peace and facilitate talks. China has sent special envoys for mediation and has urged all parties to achieve a ceasefire and return to the negotiating table, Wang noted.
The Chinese foreign minister said China welcomes the recent developments in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, which have made progress on substantial issues.
Europe should not be a bystander, Wang added. After the U.S. and Russia initiated dialogue early last year, Europe appeared to have been sidelined, he pointed out.
China supports the dialogue between Europe and Russia and encourages Europe to put forward its own proposals and solutions, Wang stated.
