The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) entered a partial shutdown as temporary funding for the department expired at the end of Friday.

The Senate on Thursday failed to advance a funding bill for DHS, as Republicans and Democrats did not reach an agreement on reforming immigration enforcement regulations following two fatal shootings by federal law enforcement officers in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Congress recently passed a funding package to fund multiple U.S. federal agencies for the remainder of fiscal year 2026, yet DHS only received a two-week continuing resolution at current funding levels.
