Peking Opera performer and Mei School successor Guo Yu'ang shared his insights on bringing opera closer to young audiences at the 2026 Spring Festival Chinese Opera Gala. He pointed out that opera is neither "old-fashioned" nor "out of reach."  The real challenge lies in finding effective ways to share it.

Today, new media is opening up opportunities for young people to experience the art form. Guo emphasized that opera is a highly integrated performing art – combining singing, speaking, acting and stage combat – where every detail contributes to a compelling performance. Through innovation and thoughtful guidance, he hopes to draw more young audiences into theaters and give traditional opera a fresh, vibrant life.
