Rare birds spotted in Hainan, signaling wetland recovery

Over 50 black-faced spoonbills, one of China's top protected bird species, have been spotted in Sibi Bay in south China's Hainan Province. Also observed in the area was the grey crane, a nationally protected species, marking its first recorded appearance in Hainan in 62 years. The sightings underscore the tangible results of long-term ecological protection efforts in the region and highlight the vital role of wetlands in safeguarding biodiversity and supporting migratory bird routes.
