Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday called for reforming and improving global governance through revitalizing the UN system, coordination and cooperation among all countries, practicing true multilateralism and promoting peace.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing the 62nd Munich Security Conference.

Wang said the Global Governance Initiative proposed by China has called for building a more just and equitable global governance system, adding that the initiative has gained widespread international support and injected new impetus into the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.

He put forward four proposals on reforming and improving global governance. First, he urged efforts to revitalize the United Nations system.

"Without the UN, the world would revert to the law of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak," he noted, calling for efforts to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and enhance the effectiveness of the UN system.

Second, he called for coordination and cooperation among all countries. It is imperative to seek common ground while reserving differences and pursuing win-win cooperation, he said.

Stressing the need to practice multilateralism, Wang stressed that major countries, in particular, should set an example by promoting cooperation, abiding by the rules, practicing equality and promoting openness.

Noting that there are still more than 60 conflicts raging around the world, the Chinese foreign minister called on all parties to promote peace talks, resolve conflicts through mediation and eliminate clashes through dialogue.

Achieving a ceasefire and reconstruction in Gaza still requires unremitting efforts, he said, adding that implementing the two-state solution is an inescapable responsibility of the international community.

Regarding the Ukraine crisis, he said all parties involved should seize the opportunity of dialogue to strive for a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement and achieve enduring peace and stability in Europe.

China will be a staunch and reliable force for peace, stability and progress, he said.
