China's Xuelong wraps up Antarctic survey, collects key specimens

The Chinese polar research icebreaker Xuelong has completed all scheduled oceanographic survey operations in the Amundsen Sea during China's 42nd Antarctic expedition. The ocean team aboard Xuelong carried out a series of scientific tasks, including conductivity-temperature-depth observations and water sampling, vertical biological net tows, krill trawling, midwater fish trawling and benthic trawling. Chinese researchers collected a batch of high-value scientific specimens from the Southern Ocean, encompassing Antarctic krill, midwater fish and deep-sea benthic organisms.
